On Tuesday, August 31, 2010, following a two (2) month investigation of illegal drug sales out of Hernandez Furniture Store 433 Main Street, Lieutenant David R. Pratt, Commander, Narcotics/Vice Division along with his detectives and members of the FBI Gang Task Force executed a drug search warrant at the described location. The items described above were confiscated during the service of the search warrant and the drugs confiscated had a total street value of $2,550.
Chief Scott said, “Once again I commend Lieutenant Pratt and his detectives for their untiring efforts to arrest and remove drug dealers from the streets of this community. I also commend the members of the FBI Gang Task Force who partnered with us in protecting this community. Arrestee Carmelo Hernandez is a career criminal who has been arraigned 22 times in the Northampton, Springfield and Holyoke District Courts. Carmelo Hernandez has been convicted of assault and battery on police officers and resisting arrest. Carmelo Hernandez’s brother Nathaniel Hernandez has no adult arraignments but at age 21 is well on his way to becoming a career criminal. Our esteem Clerk Magistrate set the bail on the pair at $540 for Nathaniel and $2,540 on Carmelo. Both posted their bail and were immediately released while the detectives were still handling the paperwork associated with their arrests. The pair is scheduled to be arraigned in the Holyoke District Court. However, I have no doubt that the judge will continue their bail at the present level and they will be returned to the streets of Holyoke to continue their nefarious criminal activities.”
